The Best Drum Mics On The Market?

I’ve (fairly) recently gotten my hands on a set of the new Earthworks Gen 2 drum mics and they are really incredible. To me, the best way to describe them is TRANSPARENT. When I play back the audio captured by these mics, they sound like the source. Clear, articulate, smooth.

I’ve played with a ton of different drum mics, and I like different ones for different reasons. Some mics have more of a built-in EQ. You stick them on the drum and they have a sound that’s already really shaped. Sometimes that can be beneficial, if that’s the sound your looking for. These, on the other hand, are more “flat” and open, and give you the ability to shape the sound however you want. For me, in a recording/studio environment, that’s a great benefit. Also, these things are built like TANKS. They’re just straight up full metal, lol.
